Political Advertising in 2008
Recently, there has been considerable debate over the implications of political ads, particularly attack advertisements, on the electorate’s beliefs and behaviors. Some scholars have found that voters exposed to attack ads are less likely to vote than those exposed to positive ads. Others have found that this effect only holds for people that are not interested in politics.
Since web advertisements tend to be more negative than their televised counterparts, and as political candidates spend more and more of their operating budgets on web ads, it is important to understand the effects of these appeals.
